We will be kicking off the 2018 Flat season here at Sandown Park when gates open at 12:00 for bet365 Classic Trial Day. This is day one of Sandown Park’s two day meeting which sees the Flat Season begin and Jump Season end. The Friday features seven flat races including the bet365 Classic Trial and The bet365 Mile. You can expect to see top quality (Group) racing as Sandown Park welcome flat horses back to the Esher turf for a seven race card. One of the races to keep your eye on is the bet365 Classic Trail (Group 3), this race is only open to three-year-old horses, run over a distance of 1 mile and 2 furlongs and is one of the eight trials for horses planning to run in the Epsom Derby in June. The bet365 mile (Sandown Mile) is a Group 2 race ran down the centre of the course, trainer Richard Hannon has trained an impressive seven winners in this race since 2004, look out for his runners this year! The annual running of The Gordon Richard Stakes named after the famous jockey in 1987 saw Ulysses gallop to victory last year, he then went on to win the Coral-Eclipse later that year.
