Sandown Park welcome flat horses back to the Esher turf for the beginning of the 2017 Flat season
We will be kicking off the 2017 Flat season here at Sandown Park when gates open at 12:00 for bet365 Classic Trial Day. First race is scheduled for 13:50, with the last at 17:10. View the race schedule here. This is day one of Sandown Park’s two day meeting which sees the Flat Season begin and Jump Season end. The Friday features seven flat races including the bet365 Classic Trial and The bet363 Mile. Race Schedule coming soon. Tickets from £16 for the Grandstand Enclosure and £22.40 for the Premier Enclosure when booked in advance. Children under 18 go FREE when accompanied by an adult. Tickets are available on the gate. You can expect to see top quality (Group) racing as Sandown Park welcome flat horses back to the Esher turf for a seven race card. One of the races to keep your eye on is the bet365 Classic Trail (Group 3), this race is only open to three-year-old horses, run over a distance of 1 mile and 2 furlongs and is one of the eight trials for horses planning to run in the Epsom Derby in June. In other words, it’s your chance to get a first glimpse of some young horses learning the racing ropes, whose owners may have dreams of them winning the spectacular Derby later in the year. The bet365 mile (Sandown Mile) is a Group 2 race ran down the centre of the course, trainer Richard Hannon has trained an impressive seven winners in this race since 2004, look out for his runners this year! The annual running of The Gordon Richard Stakes named after the famous jockey in 1987 saw My Dream Boat gallop to victory last year, a first win in the race for trainer Clive Cox.
Visit our Brasserie Restaurant or enjoy the extremely popular seafood menu in our Moet Champagne Bar, both located within the Premier Enclosure. Alternatively The Food Court offers various tastings from around the world in the Grandstand Enclosure. There will also be plenty of tasty on the go and casual food options available to racegoers throughout the Racecourse, including Piglets pies, sausage rolls, Costa coffee and Pimms.
Fancy your chances at guessing the bet365 Classic Trial winner instead? Head over to the Main Entrance Foyer on the day, fill in a competition slip with your name and email address and post it into the box of one of the runner. Winners will be drawn from the winning horse box only and will be announced after the race as well as contacted via email. Prizes include lunch in the Brasserie tickets for Tom Jones and Winner packages.
