Event Information & History

Tingle Creek Chase Day

Day two of Sandown Park’s December jump racing Festival. Betfair Tingle Creek Christmas Festival Chase Day attracts crowds of racing fans and horses from afar. The day combines Grade 1 racing with an heartwarming festive atmosphere. The two Grade 1 races are the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase and the Betfair Tingle Creek Chase, both run over 2 miles. The Betfair Tingle Creek Chase is one of the key races of the season, won in 2016 by the Willie Mullins train UN DE SCEAUX. The race is steeped in history and has an impressive list of previous champions with the likes of DESERT ORCHID, MOSCOW FLYER, KAUTO STAR, SPRINTER SACRE and SIRE DE GRUGY taking their place on the roll of honour. The event was first run in 1979, and named in honour of Tingle Creek, a popular National Hunt racehorse in the 1970s. Watch our promo video.

Double the action

Join telecast with Aintree, bringing you live coverage of the Becher Chase Day

For the first time during this fixture, Sandown Park will be operating a joint telecast with fellow Jockey Club Racecourse, Aintree to televise every moment of the Becher Chase Day fixture. Believed to be a first for the sport in the UK, both racecourses have worked with Racing UK to ensure a live broadcast on raceday, with expert analysis and interviews on the ground, is available at both sites. For those who love The Grand National Festival, Becher Chase is the only other chance to see some of the sport’s heavyweights battle over the well-known fences such as Becher’s Brook, Canal Turn and Valentine’s. The Becher Chase is a Grade Three National Hunt chase open to horses aged five years or older, which is run over a distance of about 3 miles and 2 furlongs and where runners and riders jump twenty-one fences. Two past winners have gone on to win the Grand National; Amberleigh House and Silver Birch
